Level 3

The QA Level Certificate is an alternative to the First Person on Scene Intermediate Qualification.

Held over the course of 5 days (3 days for refresher)  and endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care – The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, this Qualification is a great supplement for a range of roles in Emergency Care, such as Emergency Care Support Workers, Event Medical Responders, Ambulance Service, and anyone whom works within a high risk workplace.  

This Qualification is recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

 Learn the knowledge and skills to deal with a large range of Pre-Hospital Care emergencies such as management of airways and fractures, catastrophic bleeding, medical emergencies and much more.

Syllabus

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Responder providing emergency care
  • Be able to assess an incident and patient (overall)
  • Assess and manage a patient’s airways
  • Be able to manage an unresponsive patient who is not breathing normally
  • Be able to use appropriate equipment during a resuscitation attempt
  • Be able to administer emergency oxygen and manage a patient who is in shock
  • Be able to manage catastrophic bleeding, and a patient who is bleeding
  • Know how to manage a patient with burns or scalds
  • Know how to manage a patient with minor injuries or sudden poisoning
  • Be able to provide emergency care to a patient with head and spinal injuries
  • Be able to provide emergency care to a patient with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Understand how to identify and manage a patient with breathing difficulties
  • Know how to manage a patient with anaphylaxis
  • Know how to manage a patient with suspected major illness
  • Know how to manage a patient who is in seizure
  • Understand how to provide emergency care for the effects of environmental exposure

Level 4

Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care RQF Fife First Aid Training

The Level 4 QA Certificate is the next stage for those who have completed the QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF).  This continued Qualification allows students to widen their knowledge of practice in Pre-Hospital Care emergencies.

Ths Qualification is Nationally recognised Pre-Hospital Care Qualification, specifically created for students looking to progress their career, whether it’s within the NHS, Private Ambulance Services, Healthcare Assistants, Associate Practitioners, Event Medical Staff, or Military, Police and Fire Services Staff who have a specific interest in this role.

The Course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to deal with a wide range of Pre-Hospital Care emergencies such as mental health problems, sick and injured children and fracture immobilisation, etc.

Syllabus

  • Be able to assess and manage injury and illness
  • Understand the structure and function of the heart, including the cardiac conduction system
  • Understand pathological changes associated with heart disease
  • Know how to use the electrocardiogram (ECG) on a patient
  • Be able to manage a patient’s airway 
  • Know how to manage a patient using medical gases, and be able to administer the gases in line with current practices
  • Understand the function of components of the respiratory system
  • Be able to assess and treat thoracic trauma
  • Understand the key characteristics of the nervous system
  • Understand the mechanisms of injury and kinetics
  • Be able to provide emergency care to traumatically injured patients
  • Know how to manage cases of actual or suspected sexual assault
  • Know how to provide first response emergency care at a major incident
  • Understand the physical and psychosocial development within children
  • Know how to provide care to sick and injured children
  • Understand how to deal with a patient displaying signs of mental health problems
  • Understand how to deal with common respiratory conditions
  • Understand the structure and function of the digestive system
  • Know how to assess and initially manage sepsis
  • Know how to manage childbirth
  • Be able to assist a Clinician performing clinical interventions
